The Church has programs for children of all ages:
In our School of Love program, our kids from kindergarten through sixth grade are learning how to love. Each month they focus on learning how to love a different segment of the population (the elderly, the homeless, the hungry, difficult peers at school, the earth, etc.) We don’t teach them things they should believe; we help them do the kinds of things Jesus did. In the one-month unit on the elderly, for example, they’ll learn about struggles and challenges that elderly people face in the first two weeks, and by the third or fourth week of that unit, they’ll actually go to an eldercare facility to put what they’ve learned into practice. In the unit on the environment, they’ll spend the first couple weeks learning about ways the earth is being damaged and the last couple weeks getting outside to do something about it. We are a congregation committed to loving action at every level. We are not a purveyor of particular beliefs.
The Kidz on a Mission class is for students 7th grade and older. They meet in the basement of the church at 9:30 each Sunday. As the name implies, they are learning how to serve others. To do this, they serve at church, in the community, and take trips to Detroit. As a class, they go up into the sanctuary to hear the sermon each week, and then the following week, their lesson usually involves the sermon topic. Please click here to read more about this class.
